Men's mental health is the focus of this blog and it's no surprise that it's lunching here at The Room at Town Hall, the base of so many great ideas and good causes. This time it sees The Room working closely through the current Lockdown with Andy, and bringing a ray of light to so many who are finding it difficult. Not just through lockdown but also in general...
Andy's Man Club giving support in Lockdown
You may know that the Men's mental health charity "Andy's Man Club" is opening its latest club just a few miles from its birthplace in the heart of Calderdale.
The Brighouse meetings are being hosted here at The Room, and we're expecting a great turnout as more men reach out for support during lockdown.
Neil Waine, running Monday meetings, said that 20 are already booked on for the initial meeting, which is a sign of how much the group is needed at the moment.
"I'm surprised and I'm not surprised," Neil said.
"The pandemic has definitely played it's part. People are reaching out for any support they can get.
"Quite a few of the guys coming on Monday have never been to a meeting before so really well done to them for reaching out.
"We've opened a lot of new groups recently, in Batley and Rochdale too."
Tell me more about Andy's Man Club
Well for a start, newcomers must first email Andy's Man Club headquarters at firstname.lastname@example.org to let them know of the interest. This is purely for test and trace purposes.
Neil went on to explain; "We never want to put anybody off, we want to make it almost anonymous for want of a better word, but we have to do everything we can to follow the rules."
Andy's Man Club was forced to close during the spring lockdown but the charity has been deemed essential this time around.
Luckily here at The Room, we operate to the highest standards at all times. We must however insist, that anyone attending a meeting wear a mask. at all times and that you sanitise hands on entry.
We have a great deal of space and chairs are placed at least two metres apart to ensure social distancing can be observed while allowing for the capacity of the group as well.
